“What I see in the book is an exquisite form of technology: one that doesn’t require a power source and can be passed from hand to hand and lasts a lot longer than an electronic reader.” – Louise Erdrich

The Terror of Tyrants by Peter S. Fischer

A Chilling and Exciting Political Thriller – 5 stars

The Terror of Tyrants cover image

The news is controlled by the government with only a limited number of approved television and radio networks allowed to operate and only disseminating approved content. A piece of highly damaging information about the current federal administration is passed along to a former highly popular news anchor, Brian Everett, who now needs to find a way to get this information out to the public ahead of the coming election. The President’s staff will stop at nothing to prevent that from happening.

This book paints a picture of a United States that is controlled by a number of amoral people in positions of power. Luckily it also contains characters who are willing to fight the status quo, who still remember the guarantees specified in the Constitution, and are also willing to put their lives on the line when it matters.

The reader is taken on a wild ride back and forth across the country as the baton of information is passed along with merciless agents hot on the trail as the puppet masters control the search from Washington. Even if political conspiracies aren’t your thing, this story is also a fast-paced, page-turner of an adventure thriller, and should appeal to anyone who enjoys the old spy thriller type of tale as well.

On another level, this story is one of the people who put their lives and careers on the line to do what they know is right regardless of personal gain or loss. The duty and personal integrity of one set of characters battles the cruelty, greed, and overpowering desire for power of the other set which makes for a classic good versus evil morality tale.

For those who have read the author’s other political thriller, The Blood of Tyrants, please note that this novel is not a sequel of that book; this book takes place in a different setting and with new characters.

Highly recommended.
