“What really knocks me out is a book that, when you’re all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it.” – J.D. Salinger

The Utah Code Breaker by Denver Acey

A Geeky High Tech Thriller – 5 stars

Tanner Stone is a top-level hacker who has brought his tech talents to the most secret NSA facility in the country. He is one of the very select team of specialists who program and analyze the data being gleaned by a new one-of-a-kind, ultra-fast computer system. Another member of the team has just been killed in a presumed terrorist attack on a commercial jet; Tanner was supposed to be on that flight too. Was it really a terrorist attack, or an assassination to keep their discovery of a new potentially devastating malware threat from the Secret Service task force?

With all of the current news about government electronic snooping, this book plugs into a fictional facility that does just that. The technical jargon used is the real deal, but the explanations are clear enough that most readers should have no problem following the plot. Old fashioned espionage and covert operators are at work too, just like in the days of the Cold War. There are good guys to root for and bad guys to boo and plenty of characters in between as the NSA team works against the clock to find the solution to how the malware will be launched and how to stop it.

The premise of the malware used in the story is very clever and will make you wonder just how safe your computer and data really are. When you read this book you’ll hope the real bad guys don’t read this too and get some new ideas of how to attack the US and the Internet.
